about

Jelle Boomsma and Tomoko Koizumi: we are both violin restorers as well as dealers. We sell, buy, repair and restore instruments and bows of the violin family

We trained in Italy, in Milan and Cremona, the home of violinmaking since the days of Amati and Stradivari. Having graduated from violin making school, we continued to work in Cremona.

We later went to the U.K. where we had the opportunity to develop our skills in restoration and expertise, with leading specialists. London, with its famous auction houses, respected dealers and workshops, is the center of commerce and restoration of high quality string stringed instruments. Jelle was the manager in one of the main workshops.

We have also worked in the U.S.A. and in Japan, where Jelle was a restorer and consultant to a dealer and Tomoko worked as a self employed restorer.

Now, based in The Hague, we have established our own company: Boomsma & Koizumi V.O.F. and offer a wide range of services from basic maintenance to the most complex restoration.

Jelle Boomsma

Jelle was born in 1971. He took violinlessons starting at age 6.  Later he decided to become a violinmaker.

In 1991 he went to Cremona. He graduated from Violin Making School in Cremona in 1995 and Bow Making School in 2000.

After working in the UK and Japan he became co-owner of Boomsma & Koizumi V.O.F. in 2009.

All our bows are taken care of by him.

Jelle speaks Dutch, English, Italian, German and French.

Tomoko Koizumi

Tomoko was born in 1978 in Tokyo, Japan. She had piano lessons since she was 5 years old and violin lessons since age 8. She still plays regularly with several amateur orchestras.

When she was 18 she went to buy a violin in a violinshop in Tokyo and somehow ended up working there. As soon as she settled into the workshop it became obvious that she has a natural talent for violin making. One year later she was attending Violin Making School in Milan. During the school years she worked as an assistent to the teacher and other violin makers in Italy. After graduating from the school in 2002 she worked in England and trained in violin restoration.

In 2005 she established her own workshop in Tokyo.

Since 2009 she is co-owner of Boomsma & Koizumi V.O.F. Now she specializes in extensive restoration of fine violins.

Tomoko speaks Japanese, English and Italian.
